"Starcrossed" Receives 5 Star Reviews at Capital Fringe

"Starcrossed: The Tragedy of Mercutio and Tybalt" received 5 star reviews from the run in Capital Fringe.

“Starcrossed is a masterpiece”

“All three actors’ performances were intoxicating.”

“Eric Bermudez’s serious and dutiful Tybalt played perfectly off of Connor Delves’ playful and free-spirited Mercutio... (They are) raw, emotional, heartfelt and often outright hilarious. Despite knowing their end, these performances were so utterly convincing that one is genuinely hopeful that just maybe the end will be different, and devastated when it isn’t. A significant portion of the audience was ugly crying.”

“A masterclass in Shakespearian acting from all three of these actors.”

“Easily one of the best that Capital Fringe 2019 has to offer.”

“The cast and creative team of Starcrossed deliver one of Capital Fringe's best bets this year. It is not to be missed.”

“Connor Delves' Mercutio is that friend we all love: sarcastic and fun, always in a whimsical mood, but with unplumbed depth and hidden personal sadness. He deftly balances between loyalties, hesitating to put his own desires first."

“Garnet's writing is witty and moving, often simultaneously. Her original text blends seamlessly with the well-known Shakespearean lines and is beautifully delivered by all three actors.”

‘‘Starcrossed’ is a Romeo and Juliet reimagining, where Mercutio and Tybalt now fill the roles of the starcrossed lovers, born to be enemies. In this queer love story, we see a new parallel to the famous storyline.

Constructed around Shakespeare’s original dialogue and expanded upon into a love story of intrigue, scheming, and hope, two beloved characters get a new life, as they each grow into individuals hoping to find a companion in a world where their sexuality has no voice or champion. Exploring the battle of defining one’s heart, and the ultimate tragedy of the many lovers erased from history, Starcrossed is, to its core, the story of what happens when love is stifled.’
